The recent performance of Andreas Christensen versus Real Madrid could cost him a summer move to Barcelona, according to a report.
Christensen started Chelsea’s Champions League quarter-final clash against Real on Wednesday. However, he failed to contain the likes of Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior – resulting in a half-time substitution.
The Blues lost 3-1 at Stamford Bridge, with Benzema getting a hat-trick for the Spanish giants.
Thomas Tuchel’s side will have to be at their best to get something in the second leg and reach the last four.
Sport Witness analyse Christensen’s recent performance, while citing Spanish outlet AS.
They claim the Denmark international was ‘overwhelmed’ by Vinicius throughout the match. The attacker hit the bar early on and then set up Benzema for Real’s opener.
Andreas Christensen troubled by Real stars
Christensen simply ‘didn’t know how to stop’ his opponent. And this would be a major worry for Barca should the defender arrive at the Nou Camp, given they come up against Los Blancos at least twice a season.
The 25-year-old is generally good on the ball but failed to show his best qualities on Wednesday. Xavi wasn’t impressed by this as he wants to land a top-class ball-playing defender.
Due to these factors, Barca are now having serious ‘doubts’ about whether to bring Christensen in.
They are considering whether he would actually be better than current centre-halves Ronald Araujo or Eric Garcia. Of course, Araujo could leave this summer, which would force Barca to sign Christensen regardless.
The Chelsea man’s summer switch to Catalonia remains on the cards, for now at least.
He will be looking to improve his performances over the next few weeks, which may get the Barca scouts and Xavi back on side.
Chelsea travel to Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon. Then their attention will turn back to the UCL, as they face Real at the Bernabeu on Tuesday evening.
