Midfield maestro Brozovic delivers blow to Man Utd, Liverpool deal hopes

Manchester United and Liverpool have seemingly been dealt a major summer blow following reports that midfielder Marcelo Brozovic has signed a fresh new contract at Inter Milan.

Rumours have been rife in recent weeks that the Croatia international was close to getting a new deal done, and it’s now suggested that the contract will officially be announced this week.

The 29-year-old’s current deal was due to expire on June 30. However, a new one until June 2026 has now been signed off.

Several top clubs were looking at taking the experienced midfielder on a free this summer. They included Premier League duo United, Liverpool and French giants PSG.

But Libero writer and Inter expert Fabrizio Biasin states that Brozovic signed his new Inter contract on Tuesday, as cited by Football Italia.

The reports also suggest that the salary package agreed by Brozovic is worth €6.5million per season plus performance-related bonuses of up to €1m.

Brozovic moved to the San Siro for a bargain €7.4m from Dinamo Zagreb in January 2015.

Having claimed title glory last season, the player has made 37 appearances in all competitions this term. He has scored once and added two assists.

For United and Liverpool, it now means they will have to search elsewhere to sign a midfield pivot.
