Liverpool transfer target opens up about ‘recognition’ and future at Ajax

Brazil winger Antony says he is “happy” at Ajax, but admits to being flattered by interest from Liverpool.

Antony, 22, has been touted as a target for Jurgen Klopp this summer. The Reds may have only just added another wideman to their ranks in Luis Diaz, but they are believed to be tracking the seven-cap Brazilian.

According to 90min, Antony is in their thoughts as they try and mirror the strategy that saw them sign Diaz in January; noting interest from elsewhere and then speeding up their own plans to land the Colombian.

Antony is a winger who plays on the right-hand side and cuts onto his left foot, like Mo Salah.

This season, he has 11 goals and nine assists from 27 appearances in all competitions. That form has encouraged Liverpool to retain their interest, which dates back to when the player was at Sao Paulo.

He has been with Ajax since 2020 and made his senior international debut last year.

He also took to the Champions League with style this season, scoring twice and assisting four goals. That form has also seen Bayern Munich linked with a move for him

Bayern watching Antony

Sky Germany claimed in October that Bayern scouts had joined their Liverpool counterparts in watching the player.

Antony has admitted to thinking about life after Ajax.

“Premier League and La Liga are the leagues I find beautiful. When the time is right, I hope to play there,” he told De Telegraaf this week.

And now he has told ABola he is settled in Amsterdam.

“I am happy to be recognised like this,” Antony said. “But there are other excellent players here. At the moment, I don’t think about transfers or values, I’m happy here.”
